It looks to be a busy few weeks, or months, for games that I’m interested in being released.
I thought I’d briefly talk about some of them, and why they interest me.
LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars
Release Date (Australia): 30th March, 2011
I briefly talked about the demo of this game, and it gave me hope that not all of the gameplay that I’ve enjoyed in previous LEGO games has been lost. The games are, for the most part, pretty simplistic, but I still find the platforming and puzzle solving a great deal of fun. Hopefully I won’t regret getting this one.
Duke Nukem Forever
Release Date (Australia): 6th May, 2011
I’m not sure how much I want to pay money for this, but after all the waiting, I want to at least play it. I may just borrow it from a friend after they’re done with it, but we’ll see. I’m pretty sure it can’t live up to 10 years worth of waiting though.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Release Date (Australia): Sometime in 2011
I loved the original Deus Ex. It was only beaten by Thief for favourite First Person Sneaker in my list. The setting, the mechanics and the story all hooked me. I never played Invisible War, so it may be I’m hoping too much for the new one to give me the same buzz as the original. But I live in hope.
L.A. Noir
Release Date (Australia): 20th May, 2011
I’m usually excited by any Rockstar release; while their offerings may not be perfect, they usually offer me many weeks worth of entertainment and a game I’ll go back to time and again.
I’m not completely sold on Noir, as it seems a large departure from what I’ve enjoyed in previous games, and, perhaps will have less replay value once you’ve solved the various cases. On the other hand, I’m excited about the new facial animation technology, and being able to use it to try to determine how trustworthy a character is. I guess we’ll see if that aspect lives up to the hype.
Dragon Age II
Release Date (Australia): 10th March, 2011
I really enjoyed Dragon Age: Origins … up to a point. I’m not sure quite what went wrong, but I just reached a point where I suddenly gave up caring about it, and never went back to it. On the other hand, up to that point I enjoyed the story, and wanted to find out what happened next. The only thing that let me down was the combat, which made me feel very not much in control, or part of the action. However, it didn’t stop me enjoying it for a week or two, so if I get that much out of “II”, I’ll be happy. That said, there are hints in previews that the combat has been improved, and I have the demo on my 360, so I’ll play with that soon, and see what it tells me.
Oh, and I have to love that the Pre-order of this (with EB Games anyway) gives you a Bonus Mouse Mat. For the PC, Playstation 3 or XBox 360 versions …
